Timing & WPM

International Morse uses standard timing based on the word PARIS. Speed is measured in words per minute (WPM).

Words Per Minute

WPM is calculated using the standard word PARIS (50 units total). At 20 WPM, one unit equals 60 milliseconds. Our translator uses this formula: unit duration = 1200 ÷ WPM.

Farnsworth timing keeps dot and dash speed at your target WPM but lengthens pauses between characters and words. Set a lower Farnsworth value in Configure - ideal for learning without slowing individual elements.
