How to Read Morse Code by Ear

Effective Morse copy is auditory pattern recognition — you hear "dit-dah" as A without mentally spelling dot-dash. This skill builds through repeated listening at controlled speed.

Start with two letters (E and T), add one new character at a time when accuracy stays above 90%. This Koch-style progression prevents overwhelm.

Use audio-only quiz mode on MorseSpeak to hide visual patterns and force ear training. Combine with the Morse Machine on our Practice page to link sounds to typed characters.
